They Were Right About Me

I didn’t grow up like you did,
No one taught me to love.
I guess I can say I deserve this pain,
For never giving enough.

The only thing I knew as a child
Was the sweet scent of weed,
Knowing that anger and lust,
Only fuel ones need.

That love is non-existent,
And I was always foolish to try.
The only thing it brought was anguish,
And so far, they are right.

They said I’ll never find someone
That can mend this twisted view.
I never gave up hope,
And honestly, I though it was you.

I never once spoke of children,
I thought marriage was insane,
But you showed me how it felt,
Though I lost it in the shame.

I know I’m so damn complicated,
And outside I try to hide.
But each time I think of you,
A small piece of me dies.
